Carbon Monoxide-
The Silent Killer
Take steps to protect
your family
Each year, the colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas, carbon monoxide (CO) kills hundreds of people and sends thousands to the hospital. Symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include; headaches, fatigue, dizziness, confusion, tightness in the chest, and difficulty breathing. Carbon monoxide poisoning often causes a victim’s blood pressure to rise so the skin may have a pink or red tone. You can protect your family with a few precautionary measures.

Heating equipment that burns fuel is the primary source of carbon monoxide gas. Have your furnace or fuel-burning appliance (furnace, hot water heater, stove) inspected each year before its first use by a qualified technician. |

Have chimneys and flues inspected for blockage and cleaned before each heating season. Have all vents to furnaces, water heaters, and boilers checked to ensure they are not disconnected or loose. |

Install a carbon monoxide detector inside your home (outside sleeping areas.) The detector will sound an alarm before dangerous levels of CO develop. |

Never leave a car running in an enclosed garage. |

If you detect or suspect carbon monoxide poisoning call for assistance and get the victim out of the house and into fresh air quickly. |
