After the initial policy years, Gerber Life Insurance Company sets aside a small amount of the monthly premiums you pay for the Grow-Up® Plan. Over time, this becomes the cash value of your policy, which can be borrowed against if needed. Your child can also surrender the policy when they become an adult and receive the available cash value.

Can I use the cash value if I need it?

Yes, you can borrow against the cash value by taking a policy loan while paying the monthly premiums. Policy loans are subject to an interest rate of up to 8% and may impact cash value and death benefit. You can also surrender the policy and receive the available cash value.

Is my child required to buy additional life insurance when they become an adult?

No, your child doesn’t have to buy additional insurance. The child’s existing whole life insurance coverage will continue automatically while premiums are paid. As an adult, your child is guaranteed the option to buy additional life insurance if they choose (regardless of health or occupation) at our standard age-based rates through the Guaranteed Purchase Option Rider included on all standard issue policies.

Can I cancel my child’s life insurance policy at any time?

Yes, you can cancel the policy and receive the accumulated cash value, minus any outstanding debt against the policy. The same is true for your child once they become the policy owner.

I want to set up the Grow-Up® Plan for another child. How do I do that?

To apply for a Grow-Up® Plan policy for another child, simply complete and submit a new application.

Why hasn’t my Grow-Up® Plan coverage amount doubled?

Policies issued in 2008 or earlier double on the policy’s anniversary date after the insured reaches age 21. Policies issued in 2009 or after double on the anniversary date after the insured reaches age 18.

I live in a different state from the child I’m getting the Grow-Up® Plan for. Which state do I put on the application?
