We all want to sign on with the best family insurance provider, if for no other reason than to give us the peace of mind that comes from knowing our families will be well cared for financially. But with the knowledge that not every family insurance policy is as good as the next, how can we ensure that peace of mind?
You’ve no doubt already heard this nugget of advice: To determine the quality of a life insurance provider, find out what people are saying about the company. But short of asking the random stranger on the street if they’ve ever had any bad experiences with a particular insurer, what other means do you have at your disposal?
• Ask your friends and family. Heck, even hit up your neighbors. The fact is, there are plenty of people with family insurance policies, and you certainly won’t have any trouble finding people to share their opinions with you about the level of customer service they get from their insurance provider.
• Visit online message boards. The internet is filled with ratings sites where people can air their grievances if they’ve had a bad experience with a given company. Ratings sites and complaint forums are where you go to hear the unadulterated truth about how some companies operate. But it’s important to take everything you read with a grain of salt. The fact is, someone who’s satisfied with their family insurance policy is far less likely to take to the internet to share their satisfaction than someone who’s had a bad experience. For this reason, you may find far more horror stories than positive ones. Be aware of this.
• Check with the BBB. The Better Business Bureau’s job is to investigate claims of fraud against consumers and to investigate a company’s reliability when it comes to service issues. It can be a reliable source for gathering an unbiased rating on a company’s ability to provide superior customer service.
In the end, your idea of what constitutes the best family insurance may differ from someone else. Always keep this in mind when researching an insurer in preparation for signing up for a family insurance policy.
